A bouncer fatally shot\u00a0when witnesses said a disgruntled patron opened fire into a Manhattan bar was moonlighting to earn extra money for his family, devastated relatives told the Daily News<\/p>\n

Anton Albert, 39, was working inside Tom & Jerry\u2019s on Elizabeth St. near E. Houston St. in NoHo at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday when the gunman, who was outside on the street, started shooting into the bar, according to police.<\/p>\n

Witnesses previously told The News the belligerent shooter had just been tossed from the bar.<\/p>\n

Albert was struck twice in the chest and once in the stomach by the flying bullets. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but he could not be saved.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the time [Albert\u2019s mother] got the call and went to the hospital, my nephew already had passed,\u201d said the victim\u2019s aunt, Dominique Albert. \u201cIt hadn\u2019t hit her yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Albert, who cops said lived in the Arden Heights neighborhood of Staten Island, had last visited his mother\u2019s Brooklyn home on Friday, where the tight-knit family would often spend Sunday evenings together.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was getting ready to go out, and he told her, \u2018Ma, have a good time and I\u2019ll catch up with you later,\u2019 and then that was the last that she saw her son alive,\u201d said Dominique Albert. \u201cIt\u2019s a shame that you go to work and this is what happens just doing your job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead of spending Sunday together \u2014 with Albert planning to cook dinner for his mother \u2014 the family was left to mourn, struggling with the unimaginable loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s totally devastated,\u201d Dominique Albert said of the man\u2019s mother. \u201cThe family, we\u2019re really suffering. This is so unexpected and it\u2019s so painful. It\u2019s really difficult to deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Albert worked in an office during the week and as a bouncer to pull in extra money, according to his aunt.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was doing everything positive,\u201d she said. \u201cA hardworking family man, a hardworking father, good son, good nephew, good grandson. There\u2019s nothing bad you could say about my nephew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Albert leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter, with whom he had \u201c a very close relationship,\u201d Dominique Albert said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s with her mother, but she\u2019s in a lot of pain right now,\u201d said Albert\u2019s heartbroken grandmother, Pearlie Axson, 78. \u201cIt\u2019s so unexpected, and she keeps asking for her dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman remembered Albert as a \u201chappy-go-lucky\u201d child with a natural talent for music, even producing a couple of his own CDs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want everybody to know that he was a loving, caring son, brother, nephew, father, husband,\u201d said Dominique Albert.\u00a0\u201cHe was a little bit of everything. But he was someone that when you were around him, you knew you were going to laugh, have a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Albert\u2019s grandmother echoed the sentiment, remembering her grandson as \u201ca good kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved him dearly,\u201d said Axson. \u201cHe\u2019s always been a good kid. We\u2019ve always been there for each other. He and I were very close.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were no arrests as police continued to hunt down the gunman, who was described as Hispanic and wearing a grey hoodie, dark pants and white shoes. He was last seen running off down E. Houston St. after the fatal gunfire.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know who the suspect is, but we\u2019re certainly hoping that the police is able to find him and bring him to justice,\u201d said Axson.\u00a0\u201cThis was totally devastating and totally unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n
